Formation and Structure of Self-Assembled Monolayers.
The field of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) has witnessed tremendous growth in synthetic sophistication and depth of characterization over the past 15 years.1 However, it is interesting to comment on the modest beginning and on important milestones. The field really began much earlier than is now recognized. In 1946 Zisman published the preparation of a monomolecular layer by adsorption (self...
متن کاملModification of Copper with Self-assembled Thiol Monolayers
Self-assembled monolayers (SAM) make the creation of new types of protective layers possible, concerning corrosion, with which ecologically damaged procedures would be replaced for the protection of metal constructions from corrosion. Self-assembling is a spontaneous process which is developed by submerging of suitable metal substract into the melt with surface organic active substance, which i...
متن کاملNanopattern formation in self-assembled monolayers of thiol-capped Au nanocrystals.
The structure and the stability of the transferred monolayers of gold-thiol nanoparticles, formed at air-water interface at different surface pressure, on to silicon surface have been studied using two complementary techniques, x-ray reflectivity and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Networklike nanopatterns, observed through AFM, of the in-plane aggregated nanoparticles can be attributed to the l...
متن کاملMicrowave assisted formation of monoreactive perfluoroalkylsilane-based self-assembled monolayers.
We demonstrate the use of microwave radiation as a tool to accelerate the formation of perfluoroalkylsilane based self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on silicon oxide surfaces. Surface coverage of these SAMs of monoreactive perfluoroalkylsilanes increased in proportion to the duration over which the solutions were heated by microwave radiation.
متن کاملFormation of Biotinylated Alkylthiolate Self-Assembled Monolayers on Gold
The formation of mixed self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) from novel biotinylated alkylthiols (BAT) and diluent triethyleneglycol (TEG) alkylthiols on gold has been accomplished using aqueous solvents. We compare the effects of aqueous and ethanolic solvents on the binding performance of mixed SAMs and the integrity of monolayers formed. We use cyclic voltammetry (CV) and fluorescence microscopy ...
